Babası Sir Keith Murdoch Avustralya başbakanı Billy Hughes’in danışmanlığını yapan bir gazeteciydi. Sonra Melbourne’un en etkili gazetesinin patronu oldu. Babasından çok etkilenen Murdoch eğitimine önce Geelong Grammar School’da başladı, sonra Worcester College’a devam etti ve sonra da Oxford Üniversitesi...
SİYASET
Murdoch bir neo-conservative olarak tanımlanabilir. Gençliğinde Avusturya İççi Partisi’ni desteklemiş olmasına rağmen, işlerini tesis eder etmez Liberal Parti’ye doğru ağırlık merkezini kaydırdı. Amerika’da sürekli Cumhuriyetçileri destekledi ve Ronald Reagan’ın yakın arkadaşı oldu. Ama en ilginci George W. Bush’u hem 2000 hem de 2004 seçimlerinde sonuna kadar desteklemesiydi. İngiltere’de Margaret Thatcher’ı destekledi. Ancak 1997, 2001 ve 2005 seçimlerinde Tony Blair’in İşçi Partisi Murdoch’dan destek buldu. Ya Murdoch’un destekledikleri dünyayı yönetiyor, ya da Murdoch dünyayı yönetecekleri kokluyor ve onları destekliyordu. Star TV ile Çin pazarına girmeye çalıştı ve büyük siyasi tepkiler aldı.
